The Original “Go Bag”

Hurricane preparations
Can be quite daunting
Gathering supplies
So you won’t be left wanting
Putting gas in the car
Water and batteries
Don’t forget snacks
Who’s bringing the toiletries
It takes so much effort
Getting everything ready
Starting quite early
Going slow and steady
The ones living in
The Low lying areas
Know The dangers of flooding
It’s quite precarious
Measures are taken
To seal everything
But will it be enough
What will the tide bring
The pets need to have
Food, water, and beds
Packing everyone up
Don’t forget to count heads
Your “Go Bag” sits there
Next to the front door
If danger is present
You’ll grab it for sure
The “original go bag”
Took years to prepare
With a flood coming
There was no time to spare
Noah and his family
Had much work to do
Building the ark
As God told them to
They were given instructions
On what to bring
There would be no Walmart
They must not skip a thing
There was food to gather
Quite a job you know
It would take all
The crops they could grow
Supplies for a year
For both man and beast
Making sure all had food
From greatest to least
Noah gathered the animals
Taking them two by two
This took a long time
There were quite a few
“Clean” animals and
Some birds from the heavens
Brought into the ark
Instead by the sevens
All animals needed
To have shelter and food
The horses neighed
And the turtle doves cooed
There were camels and llamas
Lions and bears
Some got their own space
Others had to share
Noah’s family spent
All of those years
Storing provisions
With blood, sweat, and tears
They sealed up the ark
With “tar-like” pitch
So no water would enter
And cause that boat to tip
The time finally came
The storm was approaching
The clouds masses formed
The raindrops encroaching
Thunder and lightning
The wind and the rain
With fear and trembling
That day finally came
How happy they were
As the boat groaned and creaked
They’d done a good job
The ark never leaked
They’d followed instructions
Down to the letter
The results of obedience
Couldn’t be better
The challenge they had
In that work they’d not lagged
Preparing the original
Giant “go bag”
