Asaph the Psalmist

A singer named Asaph
Contributed songs
Worshipping his God
Representing throngs
Appointed by Levites
To sing and play
Copper cymbals clashing
On special days
He followed the ark
When it was being moved
As chief singer he thus
Love for God proved
From the personal home
Of Obed-Edom
To the capital city
In Jerusalem
That joyous day
The ark was brought home
Coming to rest
In a temple of stone
King David proceeded
To skip and dance
In the streets of the city
That king did prance
Asaph was called
A “visionary”
Prophesying on harps
Yes…exemplary
Multiple verses
Found In the Psalms
Bear Asaph’s name
But did he write them all?
Psalms seventy-nine
Through eighty-three
Seem to contain events
He may not have seen
Asaph’s family line
His sons carried on
Continuing to serve
Captive in Babylon
When they were released
In the year 537
148 singers
Freedom was given
The later Psalms which
In Bible canon came
May be Written by those
Who carried his name
How grateful we are
For songs on these men
Who help us build strength
For the time of the end
Some of them joyful
And some of them not
Reminding us of
The treasure we’ve got
How serving our God
With all of our might
Brings blessings for us
And for him…pure delight
