The Courage of Zadok the Seer

Zadok is a character
We may not know well
But that man sure had
Quite the story to tell

This courageous man
Of Aaron’s house not least
A Kohathite Levite
Who served as a priest

He was a supporter
Of David the King
From his faith he’d not waiver
For anything

Appointed as Seer
By Jehovah God
Given a blessing
That might seem to be odd

As a Seer entrusted
With foreknowledge
Divine understanding
What a grand privilege

This priest defended
Like a warrior would
The king that he loved
For his king was good

On high alert when
God’s ark was transported
Protecting and serving
Those he supported

When Young Absolam
Coveted the crown
Subverters of the kingdom
Many were found

King David’s life
Was in mortal danger
The son that he’d loved
Had become a stranger

To preserve his life now
That king had to flee
With an entourage
A challenge we see

Zadok and Abiathar
Were asked to go
Back to Jerusalem
With the ark in tow

As double agents
They would now serve
Misleading the enemy
Sharing all they observed

With Absolam dead
The king now could return
Thanks to Zadok’s assistance
With things he’d learned

Later on another one
Of the king’s sons
Attempted to steal
The crown from Solomon

Adonijah ignored
What his brother had done
He thought he could rule
Over everyone

Zadok and Abiathar
Did not agree
Abiathar supported
Adonijah you see

Zadok would not be
Swayed by this traitor
He’d be rewarded
By Solomon later

Becoming high priest
In Abiathar’s place
Supporting Jehovah
Throughout all his days
