Dorcas

You Can Be A Dorcas Too

Dorcas was a fine example
Of a loving Christian sister
When she fell asleep in death
Everybody missed her

Dorcas was her Jewish name
The meaning is Gazelle
Tabitha in Aramaic
Both names fit her well

Joppa was her hometown
A city by the sea
So many people came and went
It was a port, you see

The congregation filled with those
From so many places
That loving sister bringing smiles
To oh so many faces

Tabitha, a generous woman
Who really loved to sew
Making garments and fine robes
For widows she did know

Scripture says she abounded in
Good deeds and gifts of mercy
Please follow her example
Of this compliment be worthy

We all have different talents
And ways we can be used
Just look around and find a need
You can be a “Dorcas” too
