Jesus and some of his disciples

“Talents” - How Will You Use them?

Jesus gave an illustration
About a very rich man
Who When traveling abroad
Left things in his servants hand

To one he gave five talents
That was a lot of dough
One hundred years wages
Trust in him he showed

That servant was dependable
Those talents he was given
Doubling the money
Showing he was driven

The second servant did receive
A slightly smaller amount
Two talents were his lot
On him the master counts

Again his servant faithfully
Doubled what he received
“Well done good and faithful slave”
In him the master believed

When it was the third slave’s turn
The third slave hung his head
Rather than get the praise he knew
Disappointment received instead

For he had squandered all his time
And the talent he’d received
Knowing the master would be back
Those talents to retrieve

When the master did return
He called them to account
Everything that those slaves did
The master quickly found out

Jesus used this illustration
To show what was required
While he was away in heaven
To make disciples he desired

The fields were white for harvesting
The preaching must be done
The slaves must use their talents
Withholding truth from none

Looking for right-hearted ones
To become his sheep
Working hard to please the master
And his approval keep

At a time that’s undisclosed
The master will be back
Rewarding ones who keep the faith
Rejecting those who lack

How will you use your talents?
Will you Keep Preaching til the end?
Or will you lose your zealousness
And waste your time til then?

May you hear “Job well done”
“Good and faithful slave”
“Enter the joy of your master”
When you reach the judgment day
