temple

Spiritual Temple vs. Physical Jewish Temple

The Mosaic Law and temple
Existed for a time
Their purpose temporarily
Provided a life line

God’s nation needed rescued
For they were adrift
Until Their savior would arrive
To provide them with a lift

Their rescuer had come to trade
Their dinghy for a boat
There were some who just refused
To let go of that rope

The earthly temple proved to be
A stumbling block for some
For those ones did not know
It was a shadow of things to come

Jesus Christ became High Priest
In Twenty-Nine CE
Serving as ambassador
Doing good for all to see

The Priests who came before him
Were sinful men at best
They didn’t live forever
And needed forgiveness

This is not the case with Jesus
He would not ever die
He has no need for sacrifice
And will not ever lie

God’s people had to sacrifice
Over and over again
Bringing sheep and goats and birds
Atoning for their sins

This arrangement finally ended
When Jesus gave his life
A perfect gift….once for all time
A permanent sacrifice

The earthly temple was symbolic
Of Greater things to come
The Holy and Most Holy
For those in the kingdom

The “Holy” held the showbread,
Golden lamp stands, and incense
The “Most Holy” for the High priest
Representing God’s presence

Anointed ones here on earth
In the “Holy” they do go
But when they are in heaven
The “Most Holy” they will know

The curtain which was wrent in two
Pictured Jesus’ flesh
It Paved the way for them to gain
The priesthood through his death

Those of us not of that group
Can still have a part
Worshipping Jehovah
In the temple’s great courtyard

I’m thankful we no longer need
Animal sacrifice
That’s no longer part of worship
Instead we use our voice

A sacrifice of praise is heard
Every time we sing
When we spread God’s message
Praise to him we bring

Spending time together
Praying everyday
May we appreciate his temple
In oh so many ways
