True Forgiveness is Like Voluntary Amnesia

We all need our God’s forgiveness
On this Christ’s ransom’s based
As sunrise is from sunset
Far from him our sins are placed
Like voluntary amnesia
He chooses to forget
Promising he won’t call up
The things that we regret
It’s as if he can’t remember
Wicked things we’ve said and done
For when our God forgives us
He won’t recall a single one
If we continue to rehash
All the things we’ve done
Essentially we’re telling him
Christ’s ransom covers none
The past is in the past
Our future’s what he sees
Every day for him is new
So seek your God to please
When we accept his forgiveness
There’s something we must do
For all those who have wronged us
Have been forgiven too
An illustration Jesus gave
About a generous king
He forgave a slave’s great debt
Not charging him a thing
That slave not willing to forgive
His brother’s minor debt
Went and had him thrown in jail
A mistake he would regret
For when the king heard of it
He became quite enraged
Throwing that slave into prison
Until his debt could be repaid
We can’t expect God to forgive
If we don’t do the same
We must forgive and forget
Or we will be to blame
Forgiveness doesn’t mean that we
Condone things that are wrong
Release the pain and give it to
The One whom judgement belongs
For only then can we truly feel
An inner peace and calm
The kind of peace that helps us sleep
And feels like a soothing balm
Peace of God excels all thoughts
Guarding hearts and minds
Throw your burdens on him in prayer
And inner joy you’ll find
The next time that I say or do
Something wrong to you
I pray voluntary amnesia
Will help to see you through
Someday we will no longer need
Each day to be forgiven
Perfection granted to those who’ve
For God’s favor striven
