Why We All Love Peter

Aren’t we all happy Peter’s one of our kings?
We can connect with him on so many things.
Peter was faithful and so full of zeal
Always energetic, yes he kept it real.
As we all know he made some mistakes
So many lessons from his life we can take.
Sometimes he did things that he later regretted.
When impulse took over he always fretted.
Would Jesus be forgiving of him?
Perhaps he had committed too big a sin.
“Stop being afraid” Jesus told him
He could not afford to let negativity win.
From fishing for men to the transfiguration.
Looking forward to miracles with anticipation.
The apostles argued about who was the best.
Peter chimed in with all of the rest.
He eagerly tried to walk on the water
But started to sink as his faith faltered.
Peter stepped up, defending his Lord
Malchus right ear he cut with the sword.
Despite all his flaws Jesus loved him.
Just thinking of Peter can bring a grin.
Peter’s name is translated into “the rock”.
Jesus confidently entrusted him with the flock.
Holy Spirit received in the upper room.
Proved he’d been forgiven and no doubt should loom.
Peter was given the keys to the kingdom.
From all of the nations believers would come.
Now Peter’s in heaven and he’s looking down.
Hoping benefit from his example we’ve found.
We mustn’t allow fear, jealousy, or pride.
Cause us to drift away from God’s side.
Please do not give up if you make a mistake.
It’s really not worth it, there’s too much at stake.
Just persevere, get up and keep going.
And love for our God you will be showing.
