Ananias and Sapphira
Not much is known of them
They were early Christians
Living way back when

After Pentecost 33 CE
There was a tremendous need
In helping care for others
The disciples took the lead

They sold their fields and houses
To care for their new brothers
Receiving much from some
And a little less from others

This new Christian couple
Decided they would lie
About the amount they gave
Because of this they died

Their sacrifice wasn’t given
From a genuine heart
They were concerned with fame
Deceitful from the start

It would not have been required
To give the full amount
God would have accepted less
Of this there is no doubt

But Rather than pleasing God
They chose to impress men
This was a terrible mistake
And look what it cost them

Remember their example
When giving your donation
Don’t do it for the glory
Avoid this great temptation

The motive is what matters
It must be genuine
If we want to make God happy
And his approval win
