Samson

The life of Samson
What a story to tell
It sure wasn’t boring
This fact we know well

An extraordinary man
From days of old
An example of faith
Is what we behold

Before he was born
This story begins
To serve as a Nazirite
Jehovah chose him

His dedication
Wasn’t by choice
In making a vow
He had no voice

For twenty years
He served as judge
Delivering God’s people
From this job he’d not budge

He, As a Nazirite
Could not cut his hair
In the drinking of alcohol
He did not share

The rule about bodies
Did not apply
He certainly would
Cause Many to die

He told his parents
He wanted a wife
A philistine woman
Would cause so much strife

In choosing this woman
His faith was not lacking
He knew his decision
Had his God’s backing

By marrying her
It opened the way
To attack Philistines
And God’s power display

The strongest man
Yes I’m telling you
He tore a male lion
Completely in two

Bees Formed a hive
Right in the middle
Samson used that
To create a strange riddle

Thirty groomsman attending
The seven day feast
Were unable to solve it
So they chose to cheat

Those angry men
said that they’d burn
Samson’s wife and her father
On him they turned

Samson’s father in law
Gave his daughter away
To one of the groomsmen
That was a bad day

Samson took foxes
Tied them together
He lit them on fire
And off they ran tethered

The foxes destroyed
All those fields of ripe grain
This action caused him
More enemies to gain

One thousand men
He killed with a jawbone
This was a massacre
That God did condone

Dominating Isreal
The Philistines had shown
They never feared God
Now his power they’d know

Seeking revenge
Those men lied in wait
Samson foiled their plan
And then stole their gate

Protecting the city
This gate wasn’t small
With side posts and bars
It was really quite tall

To the top of the mountain
He carried that gate
Holy Spirit was needed
For something that great

The city was now
Left openly exposed
To various intruders
And the dangers they posed

The Philistines were fearful
And continued to look
For a way to defeat him
Much effort this took

The woman he loved
Was paid to find out
The source of his strength
And What it was about

Delilah nagged and pestered
Till he finally shared
That the source of his strength
Came from his hair

While Samson slept
His long locks were cut
His life would now
With disaster be fraught

God’s Holy Spirit
Was no longer with him
From that point on
His future was grim

He was thrown into prison
His eyes they blinded
While chained in fetters
Their grain he grinded.

Waiting in prison
With time passing by
He was well aware
That soon he might die

The Philistines worshipped
The false god Dagon
Their celebration to him
Was truly pagan

They brought Samson out
To serve as a mockery
While filling that house
With much debauchery

Samson asked the young one
Who held his hand
Between the pillars
To allow him to stand

Enough time had passed
For his hair to grow out
Returning his strength
Of this there’s no doubt

He leaned in on those pillars
And brought down that house
For God’s will and purpose
He had espoused

Thousands of prominent
Men died that day
Because they were selfish
With their lives they paid

Though Samson had made
A tremendous mistake
There’s so many lessons
From this we can take

We try to be faithful
But still we might fall
Don’t be discouraged
Get up and stand tall.

Remember when someone
Asks you for your story
May it be less eventful
But give God the glory.
