The Life of Jesus

A long time ago
In a far away land
A baby was born
Just as God planned

His name was Jesus
He was God’s son
His mother Mary
A faithful young woman

God transferred Jesus
To Mary’s womb
There he would grow
In his little cocoon

Jesus’ mother and stepdad
Took a long trip
It was a journey
They wished they could skip

They went to be counted
In Bethlehem
Not knowing what was
In store for them

When they arrived
The hotels were full
So they slept in the barn
Meant for the bull

That night he was born
And laid in a manger
No need to worry
He wasn’t in danger

We don’t know the date
The Bible does not say
Celebrating birthdays
Wasn’t God’s way

The shepherds were out
in the fields with the sheep
The weather was nice
Out there they would sleep

It was still autumn
There was no snow
To the fields in the winter
Those sheep didn’t go

Along came God’s angel
Announcing to them
The messiah was born
And he was a gem

So all of the angels
began to applaud
The shepherds went down
And gave praise to God

This new family lived
In Bethlehem for a while
Later we see Jesus there
As a young child

They moved out of the barn
In a house they stayed
Till they got some visitors
Who showed up one day

Three magi had followed
A star to their town
It had showed them where
The Messiah was found

Before Bethlehem
It took them to Herod
He was an enemy
Of our loving God

Herod did not want
This young little thing
To grow up and be
The people’s new king

He came up with a scheme
And told the Magi
That he’s do him obeisance
But that was a lie

He really intended
To Get rid of him
You see Herod’s plan
Was really quite grim

Those magi showed up
In Bethlehem
With gifts for the child
But then God warned them

They were not to go back
The way that they’d come
He would not allow Herod
To kill his son

He told Joseph and Mary
To go to Egypt instead
And wait til King Herod
Was finally dead

They quickly obeyed
For they had observed
How Jehovah’s instructions
His people preserved

Jesus must be protected
From wicked ones
There was so much yet
That had to be done

This special young boy
Would grow into o man
Preaching and Teaching
Proclaiming God’s plan

When Jesus was finished
With everything
He’d return to heaven
And wait to be king

His story’s not over
It’s really not though
There’s so much more
I’d like to tell you

About our new king
And his long sharp sword
With Angels and demons
In heavenly wars

Kings and priests
Trumpets and scrolls
So much you don’t know
About treasures untold

Someday we’ll discuss
All of these things
And talk about all
The rewards they will bring
